I'm Back and Here to Stay

Ever since school started up I have been super busy. In summer I read some great books about the 60s and 70s, listened to records none stop, looked at lovely pictures of the 60s, read countless blogs about 60s, and was totally stuck in the past. But lately I've been listening to more modern music and slowly losing interest in the 60s and 70s. It's important not to live in the past I think because its not healthy. You need to live in the present. I think for awhile I was living in the past and it was nice to take a break from it. One night I was working on an art project for school and was looking for something to watch on TV while I worked. After flipping through channels I landed on PBS. An American Masters special called, Troubadours: Carole King / James Taylor & The Rise of the Singer-Songwriter was on. I had seen it before and loved it. Watching it again just made me realize how much I love the 70s. The atmosphere, the music, the people, and the fashion. Then the show ended and I felt content. I was back to where I was before. In love and fascinated with the past. It was a good feeling. About a week later I was thinking about Cinema Verite. It's a fictionalized account about the filming and aftermath of the first reality TV family, The Louds. Filmed in 1971 the series showcased the Loud's day to day life including the separation and divorce of the parents of the Loud family, Pat and Bill. The title of the show was, "An American Family." When it finally did premiered in 1973 on PBS it caused great controversy and was a much talked about subject.The family was devastated by the public's response. Fast forward 38 years later and Cinema Verite premieres on HBO on April 23, 2011. I don't get HBO so I didn't get to see it much to my dismay. But I finally did see just a day or so ago. I LOVED it!! I thought Diane Lane who plays Pat Loud was amazing. She did an excellent job. The whole cast did a great job. Watching it made me fall more in love with 70s and I've watched it three times since. When I like something a lot I get sorta crazy about it. I watched experts from An American Family and researched it. What I'm trying to get at is that I'm back. I'm back to being in love with 60s and 70s. Especially the 70s. I'm not living in the past but just completely fascinated by it. I'm back and glad to be back. I want to blog as much as I can. Two Beautiful Birds

Marianne Faithfull and Pattie Boyd were probably the two top it girls of the Sixties. With their beauty and style they they became queens of the 60s scene. They were both muses and lovers to some of the most famous musicians. Every girl wanted to be them and every guy wanted to date/marry them. Their charm and elegance was unparallelled. Songs were penned about the two instantly by songwriters at just the mere thought of them, mention of their name, or a small glance of them. Both Marianne and Pattie are two of my idols. They are just so lovely and amazing. Everyone who saw Pattie or Marianne fell in love with them at that very moment. Their picture perfect life on the outside made everyone jealous. Inside, things weren't as they appeared. Fights, drug abuse, neglect, and affairs soon became their everyday life. But they survived and are now living happily. They have truly lived the life of sex, drugs, and rock & roll.

Hey everyone! How are you doing? Sorry I haven't posted much. I've been saying that a lot lately. I honestly am sorry and I really I'm going to try to post more. I've been very busy and I have somewhat of an obsession with an app. Instagram is a new app for iPhone, iPod, and iPad. It is so much fun! You take picture, chose from several filters or none at all, and then post for people to see. I love the app and I go on everyday. You can also follow other people and look at millions of gorgeous photos. There's one girl on there named Elise and she is a designer, blogger, and boutique owner. She is a vintage gal and has a wonderful blog, A Beautiful Mess. Although I don't know her personally she takes great photos and figured you guys would like her blog. Anyways I'm going to post very soon. Bye!

Thanks SO much to Kaitlyn over at Born Late for giving the Tell Me About Yourself award! I'm honored. So as most of you probably know for the award you tell 7 things about yourself and then share your most beloved blogs. I'm super excited so here we go!

1. I have naturally curly brown hair. I started straightening it awhile back and then I got a special treatment at a salon in the summer. Now all of the frizz is gone and my hair is super soft. Thanks to my aunt for paying the bill! You know a girl's gotta do, what a girl's gotta do.

2. I am in LOVE with Adele. Her voice is utterly AMAZING. This girl has talent. Unlike many music artists today, she makes "music for ears not eyes." She also has a bit of a sailor's mouth, which I LOVE too. She's talented, funny, nice, and wonderful.

3. I like trying new things and I'm working on being more adventurous. I wanna travel all over the world, learn about cultures, take amazing pictures, and eat unique food. I especially want to run and twirl around alone in a meadow, in a white dress, and then scream as loud as I can, to let all of it out. My top three places that I want to visit are, Spain, France (I really want to visit the palace of Versailles), and Italy

4. My favorite sport is soccer. I started playing it when I was little and I got the name twinkletoes. Not to brag but I do have petty good foot work. My brother is obsessed with soccer and I learn a lot from him. My favorite teams are the United States women's national soccer team and FC Barcelona. I love Hope Solo and Abby Wambach. (USA Women's Team) I also love watching Messi (FC Barcelona). He is the best player ever.

5. Although I love music to death, I can't sing to save my life. I always sing along but I sound horrible. I wish I could sing and become famous and make money but I have stage fright so I don't see that happening.

6. I love taking pictures. I'm thinking about becoming a photographer when I grow up. I think I'm pretty good at it. I love taking pictures of the sun. I want to capture moments in life with my photography. It's fun and makes me happy.

7. I live inside my head. I'm a dreamer. I make up stories, dream all day long, and imagine all possibilities. I'm never serious and I always try to look on the bright side of things. If I could just lay in a hammock, look up at the sky, and dream all day long, I would be so happy. I like to pretend that its the 60s and 70s. I even make up stories sometimes if I'm bored, about me being a young singer in the Sixties, who's later becomes a model, and also becomes an actress. In my story I'm best friends with Pattie Boyd and the other birds of the time. I date famous rock stars and make amazing, fun music. It's fun to make up little and possibly dorky stories. Basically what I'm saying is that I never stop dreaming. I feel I have the freedom to do what I want, when I want. I have tons of dreams and ambitions that I will accomplish one day. To quote Aubrey Hepburn, "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!"

Yesterday, October 9, it was John Lennon's birthday. He would have been 71. Hard to believe. We all know that on December 8th 1980 he was murdered by a crazed gun man. But John's wonderful music lives on. He is one of the most amazing, talented, and influential musician of all time. He can never be forgotten. So happy birthday John. I miss you so much. I wish you were still alive. Thank you for the music, words of wisdom, and jokes.

Stoned or Faithfull?

Hey everyone sorry I haven't posted in a long time. Yet again school has been taking over my life. I want to do a new post but I've decided to do a re post. Awhile back when I had very few followers I did a post about the song, "As Tears Go By." I asked if the Rolling Stones version was better or if the Marianne Faithfull version was better. No one commented. I'm still curious so I'm re posting the post. So please comment so we can see if you're Stoned or Faithfull.

As Tears Go By, was a song made popular by both Marianne Faithfull and The Rolling Stones. It was one of the first original compositions by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. (Up to that point The Rolling Stones had mainly been performing covers of blues standards.) In early 1964 Marianne Faithfull and her soon to be husband, John Dunbar attend a Rolling Stones launch party. That was when she was discovered by Andrew Loog Oldham, the then manager of The Stones. Reportedly he saw Marianne as an angel with big tits. (Wow that's something!) He didn't care if she could sing, he was mostly about image. He locked Mick and Keith in a kitchen forcing them to write a song together, for Marianne. He then said, “I want a song with brick walls all around it, high windows and no sex." (haha again, ain't that something!) As a result to this lovely suggestion the song was originally called, "As Time Goes By." It was Oldham who changed “Time” for “Tears." He then gave the song to Marianne. At the time was only 17. The song was to be recorded as a B-side but the success of the recording caused the record company, Decca, to switch the song to an A-side. And that is where it became a very popular single. The song reached # 9 in the British charts and launched Marianne's career as a major singer. The song also entered the Billboard Hot 100 in America the week ending November 28, 1964. This is where it stayed for nine weeks peaking at # 22. The Rolling Stones recorded their own version in 1965. It was released as a single in December 1965 by their American record label, London Records, due to popular demand after radio DJs across the country started playing the song from the band's recently released album December's Children (And Everybody's) The song peaked at #6 on the American Billboard Charts. The song was later released in the UK in 1966. It was released as the B-side to the single "19th Nervous Breakdown." The song was a big hit. But who do you think has the better version? Bianca Jagger was one of the most fashionable ladies ever, so it's no surprise when someone uses her for style inspiration. Last month Jennifer Lopez did a photo shoot for Vanity Fair. In the picture above, Jennifer mimics Bianca, who was often seen wearing white suits and hats with veils and feathers. Though I am not a fan of Ms. Lopez I saw this picture and right away thought of Bianca. Mrs. Jagger could rock the white suit like no other. She was known for her unique but stylish outfits. You might not know her but you will now. Florence Welch is the lead singer of Florence+The Machine and is known for her soulful pipes. She is immensely talented woman with a quirky, retro, weird style to match. Lace is one of the main staples in Florence's outfits. In this way she mimics Stevie Nicks. When she isn't wearing lace she's wearing leather. She can often be seen with leather jackets or boots. Perhaps a Joan Jett influence? Or maybe just a plain old rock star look. She also wears hats and John Lennon esque glasses. She is also often seen with feathers too. On stage she becomes a wild animal. Her clothing comes alive and shows yet again her strange sense of style. One day it's feathers and the next it's long flowing gowns. Florence loves her colors but is often seen in neutrals likes black, brown, and white. Maybe she does this to show off her fiery red hair. (She's actually a medium brown hair color.) The girl likes her vintage pieces too. A source said, "she has thousands of unique pieces, everything from vintage gowns to garments she’s been given by Karl Lagerfeld." She also incorporates her style into her music videos. Her style is incredibly unique, quirky, strange, but awesome. Reportedly the 24-year-old wants to team up with her stylist Aldene Johnson to create an inexpensive collection that could be destined for Topshop. I love the girl. Her voice is AMAZING and she seems like such a nice person too. I have a bit of an obsession with her. She's one of those new artist that in a way is like Amy Winehouse. A retro creative soul in a modern day body. Her lyrics are carefully written and her songs have meaning like those musicians of the past. Florence Welch might not be a household name yet but she will be soon. She's like a rainbow.

Moves Like Jagger

With it's fast-paced beat, catchy lyrics, and whistle melody "Moves Like Jagger" became a top 10 in the United States Billboard Hot 100. Maroon 5 pays homage to the great Mick Jagger who can dance like no other and make girls swoon over him, like no other. Robbie Daw from Idolator wrote that, "Moves Like Jagger" slightly echoes the Rolling Stones’ chart-topping 1978 classic "Miss You". Christiana Aguilera makes a strong appearance with her soulful pipes and dares to steal the show. Personally I think the song is pretty good. It has great vocals mostly on Christian's part though. The song itself is extremely catchy. The first time I listened to it, it became stuck in my head for weeks. Maroon 5 shows how influential Mick Jagger is to them and almost everyone else. The music video which was just released yesterday was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and filmed in Los Angeles, California on July 8, 2011. Mick Jagger makes appearances via archive footage but not before we see an audition sign for Mick Jagger impostors. We then see footage of a young Mr. Jagger being interviewed. When asked how long he has been doing this, meaning singing and performing he replies, "two years." The interviewer then asks how long he thinks he will be doing his thing. A naive Mick says "I don't know. I'd never thought I would be doing it for two years even." The video then cuts to present day and we see the Mick Jagger imposters doing their best to imitate him. Personally I think they should just have had archive footage of Mick because the imposters fail miserably to reach the par of Jagger. They look more like they are mocking him then paying tribute. That's my opinion though. Besides that the video is ok. What do you think though? I will post the video and then you can comment. Is it trash or masterpiece?

Gimme Shelter

A favorite part of mine of The Rolling Stones' 1970 documentary Gimme Shelter. I love the beginning because Keith is unlocking the door to his hotel room and says, "Anybody in? Is my local groupie in?" Then opens the door and says, "Hello darling, how are you?" in a funny little voice. I'm pretty sure he's taking to Anita. Yea, he has to be. :) Anyways after that, the film shows Keith and Mick dancing around to Brown Sugar. They then board a helicopter to one of their shows. It's a great documentary and if you haven't seen it you really should!

Concert for Bangladesh

Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of the legendary Concert for Bangladesh. With The Beatles over George Harrison set off on reinventing himself and helping others. As East Pakistan struggled to become the separate state of Bangladesh during the Bangladesh Liberation War, tremendous political and military turmoil began. The 1971 Bangladesh atrocities led to a massive refugee problem in India. The 1970 Bhola cyclone, brought torrential rains causing devastating floods and it threatened to become a humanitarian disaster. Musician Ravi Shankar consulted George and he recorded the single "Bangla Desh" to raise awareness. Harrison also pushed Apple Records to release Shankar's single "Joy Bangla" to also help raise funds. Ravi had an idea of small fund-raising concert in the U.S. and told George about it. George thoguht it was a great idea and started making plans and calling up his famous friends to see if they could be apart of it. The concert, which ended up being more large than small was organized within five weeks at Madison Square Garden. Concert for Bangladesh turned into two concerts, one held at noon and the other at 7:00 p.m. on August 1, 1971. The musicians that played the concert included George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Leon Russell, Ravi Shankar, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, and Bob Dylan. John Lennon was going to participate but George didn't want Yoko to preform with him. John agreed but Yoko was angered and an argument ensued. Two days before the concert John and Yoko left New York because of the argument. Paul McCartney declined the invitation later saying, "George came up and asked if I wanted to play Bangla Desh and I thought, blimey, what's the point? We're just broken up and we're joining up again? It just seemed a bit crazy." Ringo was the only other Beatle besides George that attend and preformed. The concert was a huge successful and the musicians played to 40,000 people in all. Both of the concerts were filmed and recorded for an album. The concert raised US$243,418.50, which was all given to UNICEF. The George Harrison Fund for UNICEF still continues to benefit from sales of the DVDs and CDs of the concert. For the concert's 40th anniversary it has been released digitally today for the first time as an iTunes exclusive. All proceeds after taxes will be donated to the George Harrison Fund for Unicef, a special charity established to help provide relief to children in famine and the drought-stricken regions in the Horns of Africa. Happy belated birthday to Mick Jagger who turned 68 yesterday. He's still rocking hard and has even formed a new group, Super Heavy. He lived the life of sex, drugs, and rock and roll and survived. He's never slowing down even though he sang, "What a drag it is getting old". So he may be be 68 but once a rocker always a rocker.

If you don't know who Sandie Shaw is you should really check her out! She was a famous singer in the Sixties, often seen barefoot. The Barefoot Queen reined over the music charts with hits like, "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me", "Girl Don't Come", "Long Live Love", and "I'll Stop at Nothing". Anyways I just wanted to do a small post because I'm working on a bigger one which will be up soon.

Hey everyone, big Beatle news! First off a documentary of George Harrison is going to be released! It includes never before seen footage and interviews from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton,Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, Phil Spector, Tom Petty, The Beatles' producer George Martin, and Monty Python stars Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle. I hope Pattie is interviewed but probably not. :( The three and a half hour film is produced by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese and Olivia. The film is named after George's 1973 album "Living in the Material World", it traces the guitarist's life from his working class beginnings in Liverpool to his fame with the The Beatles in the 1960s, and his solo career. I can't wait to see the film which premieres on HBO in two parts this Autumn and on the BBC in November. The other news is is never before seen photographs of the Fab Four's first U.S. concert fetched $360,000 at auction in New York. The photos are AMAZING. Yellow Submarine

I'm SUPER excited because today I got the invitation for my baby cousin's 1st birthday!!! The theme is Yellow Submarine. I want to get a really great gift that's Beatle inspired or Beatle related. I love my little cousin he's super adorable, sweet, and just over all amazing! I have no idea for a gift. I was thinking about a shirt or onesie but I would like getting something more..special I guess. Maybe I'm over thinking this but I want to get something he'll really like and can use for awhile. So does anyone have any ideas? Remember he is only going to be 1 so he doesn't need some collectable thingy. (Wow good grammar ;) ) Thanks for any suggestions!

Commercial Queen

Besides being a glamorous model and wife to George Harrison and Eric Clapton Pattie Boyd also starred in commercials. L'Oréal employed Pattie to star in their commercial for Dop Pearlized Shampoo. In the advert Pattie is seen driving through a car wash, washing her hair with Dop. In the end of the commercial Pattie is followed by many men in cars because of luxurious hair. In the next advertisement, Pattie is seen going around town enjoying herself, looking ever so glamorous and fabulous. (Like that's anything new!) Pattie's secret is Pond's Creams. She is shown applying it and suddenly looks out the window only to find hundreds of men waiting for her. (Again like that's anything new!) I love the commercials, they are super retro and fun to watch. They are very eye catching especially because Pattie is in them. :) Unfortunately the Pond's Creams commercial is in Spanish and though I tried translating (yes I know Spanish :) it was hard and I think you don't really need to know what they're saying to know what's going on. I'm not sure what year the commercials are from but if anyone can tell me I would appreciate it!

As we all know The Beatles had a very tumultuous breakup. In the end everyone was hurt, friendships were broken, and the world lost the greatest band in the world. Paul McCartney and John Lennon who were arguably the closet in the group had the most damaged friendship. Lennon often criticized McCartney and wrote songs about their friendship. But as years went on they started to mend and began to rebuilt their relationship. Their rebuilt alliance is shown in a postcard that John and Yoko sent Paul, Linda, Heather, and Mary while in Denmark. It's very sweet and I thought I should show you. There was still love to go around even after the break up.

A Hard Day's Night

Today, July 6th, 47 years ago, in 1964 The Beatles first film, A Hard Day's Night premiered in London. Before premiering, the movie screened at the London Pavilion cinema in Piccadilly Circus, with thousands of Beatles fans gathering outside. The ever growing crowd caused a giant traffic jam. The black-and-white mockumentary followed a day in the life of John, Paul, George, and Ringo better known as The Beatles. They were joined by Paul's grandfather (Wilfrid Brambell), their manager (Norman Rossington), and their road manager Shake (John Junkin). The film opens with a hoard of fans chasing The Beatles. They escape on a train stationed in Liverpool bound to London to preform for a television broadcast. On the train the Fab Four meet challenges with babysitting Paul's grandfather. The man might be old but sure knows how to get into mischief. A running joke in the movie about grandfather McCartney is that he is a "clean old man." The Beatles finally arrive in London but are trapped in their hotel while fans scream outside. The group explores what the hotel has to offer but lose grandfather in the process. Ringo finds in a man whose clothes were taken by grandfather, in the hotel closet reading the newspaper and smoking. They are then taken to the theater were they are to preform. Forced to endure a press conference and rehearsal The Beatles escape the building by a fire exit and run around. Eventually they return but Paul's grandfather who is "a real mixer" convinces reading Ringo that he should be outside experiencing life instead of reading books, so Ringo goes off by himself. He walks along a canal, gloomily while the other bands members search for him. He is arrested for loitering and meets Paul's grandfather. They escape and the concert goes on as planned. A Hard Day's Night is my favorite Beatles' film because of their comedy and quick wit. Another great part about the movie is the music. Music from The Beatles' third album A Hard Day's Night, (obvious but I thought I would say it) is featured in the film. "A Hard Day's Night", "I Should Have Known Better, "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Don't Bother Me", "All My Loving", "If I Fell", "Can't Buy Me Love", "And I Love Her", "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You", "Tell Me Why", "She Loves You" all appear in the feature film. The action packed film's sharp comic script, and dreamy musical segments for the swooning fan girls, made the it a huge financial and critical success. The picture made The Beatles more rich, more famous, and more adored. I think the best thing about the movie was George Harrison meeting his future wife the lovely Pattie Boyd. Pattie said, "On first impressions, John seemed more cynical and brash than the others, Ringo the most endearing, Paul was cute and George, with velvet-brown eyes and dark chestnut hair, was the best-looking man I had ever seen. At a break for lunch I found myself sitting next to him. Being close to him was electrifying.” Pattie made an uncredited appearance as one of the school girls on the train. "Prisoners?" was her one and only line. At a break for lunch Pattie found herself sitting next to George. The two who were very shy, didn't say a word but as filming came to an end George asked Pattie, "Will you marry me?" Pattie thought it was a joke and laughed. "Well, if you won't marry me, will you have dinner with me tonight?" George asked. Pattie said she couldn't because she had a boyfriend already. She soon realized she made a huge mistake. For one she didn't love Eric Swayne (her boyfriend) and second she felt a connection with George. She broke up with her boyfriend and ten days later, went to Twickenham Studios to take promotional photos for the movie. Each of the school girls (who were really models) had to stand behind a Beatle and pretend to do their hair. Pattie made a beeline for George. He was pleased to see her and asked how her boyfriend was. Pattie told him that she had dumped Eric and George who was very happy to know Pattie was available asked her out to dinner. On January 21, 1966 they married. All I can say is all's well that ends well. :)

Vittoria Marisa Schiaparelli Berenson was born February 15, 1947 in New York City to Robert L. Berenson and Countess Maria Luisa Yvonne Radha de Wendt de Kerlor better known as Gogo Schiaparelli. Her father was of Lithuanian Jewish descent and her mother was of Italian, Swiss, French, and Egyptian ancestry. Her mother was the daughter of Swiss-French Count Wilhelm de Wendt de Kerlor and fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. She was hugely successful especially in Paris, second only to Coco Chanel. Elsa collaborated with Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau. Marisa followed in the famous steps of her grandmother and came to prominence as a model in the early 1960s. She first appeared on the cover of Vogue in July 1970. This would be the first of many times that she appeared on the cover and in the magazine. Marisa became a favorite at Vogue. She graced the cover of some of the biggest international fashion magazines as well as appearing in various fashion layouts. She was often photographed by her sister, Berry. In December 1975 she appeared on the cover of Time magazine. Her frequent appearances at nightclubs and other social venues gave her the title of Queen of the Scene. Fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent dubbed her The Girl of the Seventies. On her fame and successful Marisa remarked, "I once was one of the highest paid models in the world." In 1971 she started an acting career when she stared in the film, Death in Venice. Her breakout role was in the 1972 film Cabaret. She was nominated for two Golden Globes, a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nomination, and an award from the National Board of Review. Her best known role was as Lady Lyndon in Barry Lyndon (1975). Ms. Berenson also appeared in many European movies and TV series. She also starred in made-for-TV movies in the U.S. In 1978 she guest hosted an episode of The Muppet Show. Along with her beauty and fame came admirers. In the early seventies she became the companion of French banker, David René de Rothschild. She married James Randall, a rivet manufacturer in Beverly Hills California, in 1976. A year later they had a daughter, Starlite Melody Randall. The coupled divorced in 1978, only two years after they married. She remarried in 1985 to Aaron Richard Golub, a lawyer. They divorced in 1987 and the judge ruled that "the increased value of Ms. Berenson's acting and modeling career [during the marriage] were marital property." (I'm not sure what that means but sounds somewhat important. Hehe) On September 11, 2001, Marisa's sister/photographer, Berry was killed in the first flight to hit the World Trade Center. Marisa herself was in an airplane during the terrorist attacks, flying from Paris to New York. Hours later her flight landed in Canada as did many others. Marisa was told of her sister's death during a phone call with her daughter. Talking about the experince Marisa said, "I have hope and tremendous faith. I think that's what gets you through life ... through tragedies is when you have faith." Marisa Berenson is a style icon, a beauty, a strong courageous person, and over all an amazing and wonderful woman.

Before the Fame: Part 1

Hi everyone I've been trying to get this post up for days (though it feels like a year) and I finally finished. Hope you like it!

The famous models, musicians, actresses, artists, and first ladies that have graced our world weren't always famous. There were the days before the fame when they were just themselves. Ordinary people who had to work hard like us. Some had trouble childhoods, some had glamorous ones, some had easy ones, and some had normal ones. Some worked hard for their fame, others were discovered one day with no trouble at all, and some gained fame for just being who they were. Anyway you look at it they became huge stars that people look up to, respect, love, and enjoy.

Penelope Tree: The Anglo-American model was born in 1950 and was the only child of Marietta Peabody Tree, a socialite and Democratic political activist and Ronald Tree, a bisexual journalist, investor and MP. She was first photographed when she was 13 by Diane Arbus. Her father objected to a modelling career and said he would sue if the pictures were published. In 1966 she went to the Black and White Ball and made a daring appearance in a black V-neck tunic with long slashes from the bottom, worn over black tights. She became a sensation and was described by John Lennon as, "Hot, Hot, Hot, Smart, Smart, Smart!" She started a successful modelling career and became the muse and girlfriend to photographer, David Bailey. She was photographed by Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon. She appeared in Vogue and many other magazines. Late-onset acne ended her career in the early 1970s. She and Bailey broke up in 1974 and she moved to Sydney, Australia. She married South African rocker Ricky Fataar and had a child. They divorced and she had a relationship with Stuart McFarlane with whom she had another child with. She currently works for Lotus Outreach, a charity which works in Cambodia. Penelope Tree had beautiful looks, inspired many young American women, and was part of the Sixties movement. I personally regard her as style inspiration.

Andy Warhol: Andrew Warhola Jr. born 1928 was an American painter, print maker, and filmmaker. He was a leading figure in the pop art movement and had a mass following. Before gaining worldwide fame he was a somewhat normal boy. He was the fourth child born to Andrij and Julia Warhola. In third grade her had chorea, the nervous system disease that causes involuntary movements of the extremities. He became a hypochondriac, developing a fear of hospitals and doctors. Due to often being bedridden he became an outcast at school but developed a close bond with his mother. When he was confined to his bed he drew, listened to the radio and collected pictures of movie stars around his bed. According to Warhol this became an important step in his development. In 1952 Andy Warhol had his first one-man show exhibition in New York. Two years later he had an important group exhibition. He was steadily becoming famous because of his art. In the sixties Andy started painting objects in daily life. This led to the paintings of Campbell Soup cans and Coke bottles. He soon became a famous figure in the New York art scene. The famous "Factory" was opened up in 1962. It was an art studio and a hip hangout for artsy types. The Factory produced Warhol Stars and was famous for it's wild parties. Andy made many movies here and made Edie Sedgwick a star. She became his muse and was the subject of many of his movies and art. The Factory became a hangout for many A-Listers. He designed the Sticky Fingers album for The Rolling Stones and became the manger for The Velvet Underground. On June 3, 1968, Valerie Solanas shot Warhol and Mario Amaya at Warhol's studio. Solanas had appeared in one of Warhol's movie before the shooting. Amaya received only minor injuries and was released from the hospital that same day. Andy however was seriously wounded by the attack and barely survived. Surgeons had to open his chest and massaged his heart to help stimulate its movement again. The shooting had a profound effect on Andy's life because he suffered physical affects for the rest of his life but also had an effect on his art. Mr. Warhol stayed quiet during the 70s and he became more entrepreneurial. He died in 1987 at the age of 58. He created such amazing and inspiring art. Andy Warhol will always be known for his creative yet kooky mind.

Jackie Kennedy: Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was born July 28, 1929. She grew up in New York, splitting her time between her divorced parents. She met then-U.S. Representative John Kennedy at a dinner party organized by mutual friends in 1952. (The two were in the same social circle.) They soon began dating and in 1953 they became engaged. They married September 12, 1953, at St. Mary's Church in Newport, Rhode Island. The couple had four children, two of whom survived childhood. John ran for president and narrowly beat Richard Nixon in the 1960 election. Jackie rose to fame as first lady and became one of the most popular first ladies. She threw many social parties and and began a restoration of the White House. Mrs. Kennedy also became a style icon. Her clean suits, sleeveless A-line dresses, above-the-elbow gloves, low-heel pumps, and famous pillbox hats were an overnight sensation. Her iconic look became known as the "Jackie" look. Jackie brought many changes to the White House and could have brought more but her dear husband was assassinated November 22, 1963. Jackie became deeply depressed after his death but her children brought her back on her feet. In October 20, 1968 she married Aristotle Onassis. They remained married until his death in 1975. Jackie died on May 19, 1994 from cancer. Jackie has a legacy that can never be forgotten or overshadowed by any first lady.

Paul McCartney: James Paul McCartney was born in 1942 on June 18th to James "Jim" and Mary McCartney at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, England. The "cute" Beatle started his music career when he met John Lennon and the Quarrymen when he was 15 at a church festival. He hit it off with John and the two formed a close friendship and writing partnership. The Quarrymen became The Beatles with Paul on bass and vocals, John on guitar and vocals, George Harrison on guitar, and Richard Starkey a.k.a Ringo Starr on drums. After playing clubs in Hamburg for years they were discovered by Brian Epstein. They released their first single and Beatlemania started. They became the most famous music group and helped lead a revolution. After hundreds of singles and 13 albums they broke up and went on their own. Paul had a successful solo career with the band Wings and by himself. He continues to make amazing music and is the coolest musicians ever. He has become a famous figure in the music world. Paul is a genuinely nice guy who's love is music. He is the definition of creativity and awesomeness. With songs like Maybe I'm Amazed, Let it Be, Hey Jude, Band On the Run, and many many more he has become a living legend. He along with Ringo are the last two surviving Beatles.

George Harrison: Born in Liverpool, England, on 25 February 1943 he developed a love for music at an early age. His mother encouraged his musical development and became a huge source of support and love in his life. He met Paul McCartney when they were still in school. Paul told John Lennon about George but John considered him to young to join but he finally did join when he was 15. The band played the clubs in Hamburg but on the first trip he was deported for being underage. He and band got back on the road though and worked hard. Brian Epstein discovered them and molded them into, "The Beatles". The "quiet" Beatle grew and developed while in the group, writing songs and giving his input. He married model Pattie Boyd and she became inspiration for many of his songs. The Beatles broke up in 1970 and George was the first Beatle to have a number one song. He became very religious after The Beatles took a trip to India in 1968 and his songs reflected his feelings. But sadly this, along with infidelities broke up his marriage with Pattie. He was saddened by this and when he met his next wife, Olivia he made sure that this time he would treat her right. After John Lennon was murdered in 1980, Harrison became scared he could be killed and somewhat withdrew from the spotlight. He still had a successful music career and was immensely creative. In 2001, November 29 he died from cancer after a four year long battle. He left behind an amazing legacy and was an all around fun, creative, and normal guy. R.I.P! We love you Georgie!

Pattie Boyd: Patricia Ann Boyd, born 1944 in Taunton, Somerset, England to to Colin and Diana Boyd. Pattie was the older sister to her sibblings Colin, Helen Mary (nicknamed Jenny by Pattie after a favorite teddy bear), and Paula. The Boyds moved to Nairobi, Kenya, from 1948 to 1953. But the Boyd marriage which was troubled since the start, broke apart and they divorced in 1952. After the divorce Pattie was shipped off to boarding school. When she came back home during a school break she found out that her mother had remarried when Diana uttered the words, "Darling, this is your new father." Pattie was stunned and couldn't believed what had happened while she was gone. The marriage of Diana and Robert Gaymer-Jones proved to be unhappy for both her parents and the children. Her new father was abusive and mean. He didn't like children and treated them like dirt. He, Pattie's mother and sister Paula set sail to England, leaving behind the rest of the children in Africa. Pattie had no idea why. Nothing was ever explained in their childhood. The three left behind siblings had to depend on each other and as a result built a family unit around themselves. The sibling family was moved to England where they were met by their new half brother, David. The couple had another child, Robert. Pattie left the house after finishing school and moved to London to work at Elizabeth Arden's as a shampoo girl. While there, a women who worked for Honey Magazine asked if she ever thought about being a model. Pattie soon entered the world of modelling and had a very successful career. In 1964 while taking part in The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night film she met George Harrison. The first words he ever said to her were, "Will you marry me?" Pattie laughed. George then asked her to go out to dinner with him but she turned him down. Pattie realized after that she had made a mistake. When she went back to her second day on set she accepted George's invitation to dinner. They started dating in 1964, and in 1966 they married. They had a very happy and loving marriage full of adventures. In 1968 The Beatles went to India and George was changed forever. He became very religious after and paid almost no attention to Pattie. Along with that and infidelities the marriage collapsed and in 1977 Pattie divorced George. Waiting in the wings was George's good friend, Eric Clapton, who had fallen in love with Pattie. They married in 1979. They had a hectic marriage because of Eric having affairs and drug and alcohol abuse. Personally I think marrying Eric was a bad move. Though they had some great and loving moments in their marriage I never liked him and he treated Pattie like dirt. They divorced in 1988 after Pattie found out he had a secret child with Lory Del Santo. Pattie was in deep depression after her failed marriages and started to receive therapy. She soon rebuilt her life and became a photographer. She opened up an photo exhibition of pictures she had taken during her life with George and Eric entitled, Through the Eye of a Muse. In 2007 she released, Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me. Pattie is my role model and gives me inspiration. I love her, her story, and style.

Today is the birthday of legendary Beatle and musician, Paul McCartney!! The cute Beatle turns 69, can you believe it! Born in 1942 on June 18th to James "Jim" and Mary McCartney at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, England. James Paul McCartney started his music career when he met John Lennon and the Quarrymen when he was 15 at a church festival. He hit it off with John and the two formed a close friendship and started writing songs together. The two took over the band and soon George Harrison joined. Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best joined soon after Harrison and the group changed their name to The Beatles. (Has a lovely ring to it don't you agree?) Stuart left the group in 1961 and died of a brain hemorrhage in 1962. Pete Best was replaced by Richard "Ringo" Starkey. Brian Epstein became their manager. George Martin (their producer who produce every album except for one) got them signed to EMI's Parlophone label. They released their first single and the rest as they say is history! They gained HUGE success in England and America. They led a revolution in music and inspired everyone. Their music was new and fun. They joined the sixties revolution and fought for peace and love. They introduced fashion to the world and broke a cord when they appeared with their shaggy hair cuts. Their songs were youthful, poppy, and full of love and new ideas. They battled politics with their songs Taxman, All you Need is Love, Come Together and many more. Paul helped lead the Beatles to their greatest and was a focal point in the band. His puppy dog face and charm made girls fall in love immediately. Paul wrote and co wrote many of The Beatles hits. The happiness and fun soon became pressure and tension. The Beatles were all going in different directions. George was becoming very religious, Paul had met Linda and wanted try new music and get away from the fighting, Yoko and John met and she became his world, and Ringo was sad to see his friends fighting and was having troubles in his marriage. Paul released his first solo album, McCartney that announced his departure from The Beatles. The band broke up and Paul was upset and became a drunken fool who would lay on the couch reaching for the bottle. His lovely Linda soon got him back up on his feet and they formed Wings. The couple also started a family having three children, one adopted by Paul that was Linda's child from a first marriage. Wings had massive success and Paul became a legend. The music he made was so creative and new. His work never ceases to amaze me. After Wings broke up Paul made tons of solo albums and became the definition of awesome. Paul is a hero to me. He is an incredibly nice person, caring, loving parent, creative musician, and amazing performer. He has inspired me and everyone else. He's amazing and wonderful. He is getting married again ad he seems to be in a good place right now. I bet he enjoyed his birthday very much this year. Happy Birthday Paul, hoped you had a great one! Thanks for everything! (And I bet he's gonna have a great Father's Day tomorrow!)

Ready Steady Go!

Ready Steady Go!, was one of the UK's first rock/pop music TV programs. It debuted in 1963 and became a smash hit. The show appeared Friday in the early evening opening with the line "The weekend starts here!" The show was introduced by a song which changed over the course of the show's run. The first song was The Surfaris' "Wipe Out" but it was later replaced by Manfred Mann's "5-4-3-2-1". The song was yet again replaced with Manfred Mann's "Hubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble". The show was more youth oriented then it's rival Top of the Pops. The most famous presenters were Keith Fordyce and Cathy McGowan. (Though the early shows were introduced by Dusty Springfield.) Cathy McGowan joined in 1964 after answering an advert for "a typical teenager" to be an adviser. She beat out 600 other applicants for the job apparently because she answered "fashion" to one of the questions. Instead of an adviser she found herself presenting. Her status as a fan was evident in her style; stumbling over lines, losing her cool, and inexperience. She was young and intriguing to the audience. Unlike her her partner Keith, she joined in various fun and games including miming with The Rolling Stones to other peoples records. The most notable miming being "I Got You Babe". Due to her antics she became very popular. In fact she may have been the inspiration for the character Susan Campy from The Beatles 1964 film A Hard Day's Night. In the movie when George Harrison tells the producer of a fictitious teen television show that Campy is "... that posh bird who gets everything wrong", the producer replies, "She's a trendsetter. It's her profession." (Lucky girl!) McGowan was a girl in touch with the times and fashion. The viewers could relate to her because she was their age and had some of the same thoughts and ideas. She was soon crowned "Queen of the Mods". She became a role model for young women, was attractive to men, and introduced fashion to many young women. According to her biographer, Anna Wintour (editor of Vogue) was one of those young girls who McGowan introduced fashion to. Twiggy who regarded McGowan as her heroine said, "I'd sit and drool over her clothes. She was a heroine to us because she was one of us". Along with Cathy's easy going vibe there were other aspects of the show that people loved. The artists preformed the full version of their songs unlike many other music programs who demanded they cut it short. This was a factor of the show that people loved and helped it grow in popularity. RGS! received its highest ratings when The Beatles preformed on March 20, 1964. The Beatles gave an interview and performed their songs, "It Won't Be Long", "You Can't Do That", and "Can't Buy Me Love". Although the Rediffusion's company had bigger facilities in Wembley they recorded at small studios in headquarters in Kingsway, London because it was easier to attract stars to central London. Since the studio was small and compact the cameras which were very large with rotating lens turrets rather than zooms, were impossible to hide. Thankfully people were able to use this as a plus and brought the cameras into the action of the show. The show grew in popularity over the years and somewhat surprisingly had a popular following among the British mod youth subculture. As McGowan's star power grew her partner Keith Fordyce left in March 1965. Without missing a beat she took over the show. But in 1966 as the "beat boom" movement was fading and the show was cancelled. The last episode premiered on December 23, 1966. As the show came to and end Cathy's once bright star began to flicker. She continued in journalism and broadcasting. She became a board member for London’s Capital Radio. In the late 1980s she worked for the BBC's Newsroom South East, which specialized in entertainment. She wound up interviewing many stars that she had met during her time on RSG! She interviewed Michael Ball, who became her partner in the 1990s. She also interviewed and Debbie Harry of Blondie, whom she described as the most beautiful woman she had met! (I mean come on, who doesn't love Debbie!?) Ready Steady Go!, is a legendary TV show. Along with the lovely Cathy McGowan presenting, the show allowed artist to preform the full version of their song, introduced fashion, and was youth oriented. The show helped change the music seen. In a way it was the Sixties' MTV. The show proved that music is a huge part of our lives. Ready Steady Go!, was a huge part of the Sixties revolution because it showed new music that was fun and made us wanna dance and laugh.

One of the best inspirations for male musicians/songwriters are girls. We're amazing, beautiful inside and out, creative, smart, and funny. We're pure diamonds. Marianne Faithfull had every one of these qualities plus more. She was every inch a girl. So it was no wonder that she inspired many songs. Most of the songs were written by her famous companion Mick Jagger. Sympathy for the Devil, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Wild Horses,She Smiled Sweetly, Let's Spend The Night Together, and I Got the Blues were all inspired by Marianne. But other men got her attention when she went on tour to promote her hit single "As Tears Go By." The tour featured many acts including the hit group, "The Hollies." Allan Clarke, Graham Nash, Tony Hicks were (in my eyes) quite taken by Marianne and inspired to write a song about her. In May 1967, the Hollies released "Carrie Anne", one of their best known singles and a personal favorite song of mine. The song would became a classic but the identity of Carrie Anne remained a mystery. It wasn't until 1995 that Graham Nash revealed the identity of Carrie Anne. He said he had written the song about Marianne and was "too shy" to use her real name. How sweet! Though Marianne has never commented on the song, I know if I was her I'd be honored. The song has a very up beat tempo and Allen Clarke provides great vocals. Marianne won over everyone over with her charm, beauty, and personality. It's no wonder she inspired soo many songs and people.

Actually my favorite version of the song is live in 1969. I think the studio version isn't that great and the live performance is much better!

Happy Birthday Michelle!!

The beautiful and talented Michelle Phillips' 67th birthday was on June 4th. Happy belated birthday!! I love Michelle. Her voice is sweet but strong. She seems to be a very nice person who loves life. Born June 4, 1944 as Holly Michelle Gilliam she rose to fame in the successful group, The Mamas and Papas. The band began in 1965 and ended in 1968. In 1966 it was discovered that she and fellow band member Denny Doherty were having an affair. Tension arose in the band and she was expelled from the group in June. But she was asked to come back in August. (thankfully!!) After The Mamas and Papas split up Michelle became a successful actress staring in the films Dillinger, Bloodline, Valentino, and many more. On January 12, 1998, Ms. Phillips was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for being part of The Mamas and Papas. She is the last remaining member of the group and owns the rights to California Dreamin. I love Michelle! She is amazingly talented and beautiful. I love her style and look. She is amazing!! SO by now its obvious that this post is dedicated to the wonderful Michelle! Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a great one!

With a Little Help from My Friends

If you were high up in society in the 60s and 70s chances are you made great friends with the celebrities around you. I love seeing the celebrities of the time interacting with their famous friends. It sorta says; "Yeah I'm a famous but I have my friends and enemies like everyone else." It shows their relaxed natural side. Some friends were always seen at their side. Other stuck by them no matter what. They looked glamorous and caring with each other. The famous friends understood what the other was going through. Scheduling conflicts, scandals, rumors, and more. It was just part of their daily lives. They helped each other through it and provided a safe haven sometimes. So to quote The Beatles, "Oh I get by with a little help from my friends."

Guess what! Yesterday when I was out and about with friends we went to an antique shop. It was a really cool retro shop with lots of things from the 60s and 70s. We were looking around when one of my friends found a huge shelve full of records! I was mesmerized. I look through the shelve gawking at every record I saw. My friend pulled out the famous, McCartney album. I couldn't believe it! My head was exploding at that point. I saw it and knew I just had to have it. I don't have a record player but I just wanted it sooo bad. It was Paul's first solo album, it announced his departure from The Beatles, and it was the first of many albums featuring the lovely Linda. I grabbed it, along with an awesome poster of The Beatles. I paid and I am now a very very proud owner of the famous McCartney album. I'm super happy and I can't wait to go to my friend's house to play the record! Best day ever!

Some days you feel horrible. You feel worthless, confused, and sad. You think you can't go on, you just wanna die. You wanna crawl under a rock. You don't want anyone to see you. Life is so confusing. But you MUST remember. You are beautiful inside and out. You are worthy, your a pure diamond. If anyone ever knocks you down and tells you that you aren't worth it, give them the finger. They're lying. You are an amazing person. REMEMBER THAT! Even when things are bad I promise they get better. So I'm writing to those lost souls or anyone else who feels out of place. I want to inspire you. I want you to be happy and take your broken wings and learn to fly! You are a bird, beautiful and free. You're the key to your happiness. Open up and let your true colors show! Like most people on this earth I love the Beatles! Their music, their lives, and really anything else about them. After listening to their music almost religiously I'm kinda like a trained seal when I hear their voices because I'll shout out, "Hey, The Beatles!" So when I was listening to Carrie Ann by The Hollies (first time ever listening to the group) a voice got my attention.

Terry Sylvester sang his part in the song and I thought, "Hmm sounds like Paul McCartney. When I listened to it for the second time I didn't think so as much but still Terry sounds quite similar to Paul. You could tell the difference between them easily though. So now it's your turn to decide. Leave a comment and we'll find out if you agree or if I'm crazy. ;)

Hey everyone! I've been gone for awhile as you might have noticed. I went off camping with friends and I had no phone or computer access. I had fun and I had good fun. We went on hikes and saw some beautiful views. I was happy though to get back home and take showers and sleep in my own bed. I will post some pictures and I will post soon! I'm very happy to be back! Also happy Cinco De Mayo!

An American Family

In early 1973 An American Family first aired in the United States on PBS. It consisted of 12 episodes edited down from 300 hours of footage. The show followed the Loud family of Santa Barbara and is considered one of the first examples of reality TV. The series showcased the Loud's turbulent experiences during a period when the parents of the Loud family, Pat and Bill separated and Pat filed for divorce. Bill was guilty of infidelity and Lance Loud, the oldest of the family announced that he was gay. On the surface you would think that they were a normal American 70's family who handled their problems with composure. But really it was the exact opposite. The family was going through difficult times and the cameras did not help. When the series aired the family was devastated by the public's response. One critic called the family “affluent zombies,” and the Times described Lance Loud, the gay son, as “camping and queening about like a pathetic court jester, a Goya-esque emotional dwarf.” The Louds came out and said the series destroyed their family and it emphasized the negative aspects of the family and its relationships. Craig Gilbert, the creator of An American Family remembers getting a late-night phone call from Pat after she had read the first of many embarrassing and negative articles that would be written about her family. “Pat was screaming,” Gilbert said. “She’d taken a below-the-belt hit, and it hurt. That, right there, was the beginning of my own confusion. What have I done? What do I do?” He paused. “I’ve never resolved it. I didn’t know what I had wrought. I still don’t.” Fast forward 38 years and Cinema Verite premiers on HBO on April 23, 2011. The Louds were reportedly unhappy with the script, ended up accepting a financial settlement from HBO for agreeing not to discuss it publicly. The movie stars Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, and James Gandolfini. It follows a fictionalized account of the production of an American Family. I suggest you watch it, I haven't seen it but it looks very interesting and captures the 70s. I want to see it and I hope after this you do too.

Sunny Days Brings Smiles

Hello! Today was soo much fun! I have a break so my friends and I decided to hangout. We went to shops where we looked around and laughed our butts off. First we went to an art store and mostly played and petted the little white doggie that was there. Next we went to a used bookstore and found some very umm..interesting books. We left fearing that we would do something stupid. Then we went to a clothing store and had soo much fun. They had the coolest sunglasses there and the cutest clothes. They were soo freakin expensive though! But my friends and I loved looking around. The only one who didn't care was my tom boy friend. She just rolled her eyes and laughed when we went super girly. We also tried on hats and let me tell you I discovered that me and my other two friends can rock hats. We look great in them! (haha)Then we went to like a candle relaxing store. The guy at the front was little weird and it smelled not to good. We left as soon as we arrived and went to a toy store to goof around. We played with the toys and one of my friends rode a toy horse that was outside the store and the girl at the desk nicely asked her to get off. It was funny sorta because the lady looked stress already and to see us in our "army" loud and loud (but nice and careful!!) just sorta stressed her out more. Needless to say I think she was happy when we moved along to the next store. It's sad to see a store go out of business unless you hate it. Well I had drove past this store before and thought it looked cool and I wanted to go in. It was a painting store and it was very nice. But then I found a picture of Tiger Woods and laughed my butt off. I was nice though and only showed one friend so I didn't start a riot! We crossed the street and went to the other side of the downtown. We went to a kooky retro store. It was pretty cool but it was a little gaudy. It did have a lot of Pan Am bags. I immediately thought sixties and The Beatles. Next on our journey we passed a glass antique shop and when one friend asked if we should go in we all answered, "NO!! We would break something!" We laughed and decided to get froyo. It was fun and I was the slowest eater because I kept taking pictures of us eating and looking crazy. We talked and joked around. It was really fun and we all decided to honor a friend of ours who just had a seizure with our froyo. He's better and out of the hospital but is getting brain tests. We quickly moved on from the dapper moment and ate and laughed. After eating we left the downtown and played volleyball at a park. But that didn't last for long and we found ourselves chucking the ball at each other. It was a great day filled with laughter, happiness, and funniness. I can't wait to go back!

Before meeting husband Paul, Linda was a well known photographer. She was the first woman to have a photo that she took to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. She photographed the top musicians of the sixties. She captured intimate and spontaneous moments. As Paul said, "No one captured the Sixties like Linda."
