Gimme Shelter

A favorite part of mine of The Rolling Stones' 1970 documentary Gimme Shelter. I love the beginning because Keith is unlocking the door to his hotel room and says, "Anybody in? Is my local groupie in?" Then opens the door and says, "Hello darling, how are you?" in a funny little voice. I'm pretty sure he's taking to Anita. Yea, he has to be. :) Anyways after that, the film shows Keith and Mick dancing around to Brown Sugar. They then board a helicopter to one of their shows. It's a great documentary and if you haven't seen it you really should!

Stoned or Faithfull?

As Tears Go By, was a song made popular by both Marianne Faithfull and The Rolling Stones. It was one of the first original compositions by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. (Up to that point The Rolling Stones had chiefly been performing covers of blues standards.) In early 1964 Marianne Faithfull and her soon to be husband, John Dunbar attend a Rolling Stones launch party. That was when she was discovered by Andrew Loog Oldham, the then manager of The Stones. Reportedly he saw Marianne as an angel with big t*ts. (Wow that's something!) He didn't care if she could sing, he was mostly about image. He locked Mick and Keith in a kitchen forcing them to write a song together, for Marianne. He even suggested what type of song he wanted: “I want a song with brick walls all around it, high windows and no sex." (haha again, ain't that something!) As a result to this lovely suggestion the song was originally called, "As Time Goes By." It was Oldham who changed “Time” for “Tears." He then gave the ballad (a format that the Stones were not yet known for) to Marianne. At the time was only 17. The song was to be recorded as a B-side but the success of the recording caused the record company, Decca, to switch the song to an A-side. And that is where it became a very popular single. The song reached # 9 in the British charts and launched Faithfull's career as a major singer. The song also entered the Billboard Hot 100 in America the week ending November 28, 1964. This is where it stayed for nine weeks peaking at # 22. The Rolling Stones recorded their own version in 1965. Their recording is notable for its heavy string arrangement by Mike Leander. It was released as a single in December 1965 by their American record label, London Records, due to popular demand after radio DJs across the country started playing the song from the band's recently released album December's Children (And Everybody's) The song peaked at #6 on the American Billboard Charts. The song was later released in the UK in 1966. It was released as the B-side to the single "19th Nervous Breakdown." As you can see the song was a big hit. In every decade people have to stay warm. Some people do it in style and some don't give a crap. But the people who do give a crap look amazing. Who knew a fur coat could look so stylish! I'd love to wear coats like this but it'll have to be fake fur!

Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg: Animal lovers?

A picture taken of Pattie and George Harrison on their wedding day. In her book (Wonderful Tonight) Pattie talks about their outfits. "I bought a Mary Quant pinky-red shot-silk dress, which came just above the knee, and wore it with creamy stockings and red pointy shoes. On top because it was January and cold, I wore a red fox-fur coat, also by Mary Quant, that George gave me. She made George a beautiful black Mongolian lamb coat." Another pair of lovers in fur. Though you might not be able to see it George is wearing his lamb coat.

Traveling in Style

Airports made some big bucks in the Sixties. Film stars, music stars, models and everyone in between. They traveled with their wives, girlfriends, husbands, friends, boyfriends, and families. But they all shared one thing in common. Style. No matter how early or late in the day, they all still looked amazing! So hats off to the people of the sixties who traveled. You gave the world a lesson on style!

Love, Sixties Style

I'm not really a Valentine's person. I don't really get it and I don't celebrate it. Probably makes sense because I'm young. But Pattie Boyd and George Harrison look sooo amazingly cute and adorable in these photos! They loved each other soooo much! It's just soo cute. They were the cutest couple ever! Another great couple was Paul and Linda McCartney. They loved each other soo much! They were a great couple. So sad that she passed away. But Paul will always love his lovely Linda. Another Beatles' couple was Ringo Starr and Maureen Cox. She was in love with him from the start. During their Liverpool days she took notice of him and soon they became a lovely couple. They had three children together and she supported him all the way. And the last couple I want to talk about is Anita Pallenberg and Keith Richards. They loved each other very much and some sources say the only reason they separated was the advice of lawyers because they were a bad influence on each other. But I think they were still a loving and caring couple. I'll post pictures of these lovely couples, Have a happy Valentine's Day.
